SeaWorld Orlando is preparing to bring back theatrical orca performances as part of a major entertainment update at the park. Current orca presentations were halted in April to allow for changes tied to the return of the nighttime “Light Up the Night” show. The production marks a major shift for the park, which officially ended its traditional theatrical orca shows on December 31, 2019.

Following the end of those performances, SeaWorld focused heavily on “edutainment” experiences, with shows designed to teach guests about orca behavior, conservation, and animal care. Since 2019, the park’s orca presentations have remained largely educational in style, moving away from the large-scale theatrical productions that once defined the park’s entertainment lineup.

Online reaction to the return has generally been positive, with many fans expressing excitement about the new version of the show and the added variety it could bring for the animals. Supporters have also pointed to the change as a way to provide enrichment through a different style of performance after several years of similar educational presentations.

The return of “Light Up the Night” is also part of a larger nighttime entertainment expansion across the park. Alongside the updated orca production, SeaWorld Orlando is introducing a new nighttime sea lion show and bringing back the popular dolphin presentation “Dolphins: Touch the Sky.” The additions signal a renewed focus on large-scale entertainment offerings as the park continues evolving its live animal experiences.

“This summer, there are so many reasons to visit SeaWorld Orlando. Electric Ocean is bigger and better than ever and we are introducing three nighttime animal presentations featuring our orcas, sea lions and dolphins,” said Jon Peterson, president of SeaWorld Orlando. “Guests will experience powerful animal connections by day and a full lineup of electrifying nighttime entertainment—from immersive presentations to a breathtaking drone and fireworks finale—that transforms the park after dark.”

Beginning June 12, three nighttime animal presentations debut, blending entertainment,
education, and energy:
Shamu Celebration: Light Up The Night features vibrant lighting, music, and high-energy
choreography that celebrates the power and beauty of killer whales in a festival-style
atmosphere.
Sea Lions Tonite brings even more laughs, personality, and fast-paced comedy as
SeaWorld’s beloved sea lions take center stage with all-new surprises.
Dolphins: Touch the Sky features playful bottlenose dolphins, inspiring storytelling, and
an energetic soundtrack
