Universal Studios Orlando seems they are about to bid farewell to the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster. The park has filed plans with the South Florida Water Management District under the name “Project 830,” which outlines the removal and replacement of the iconic attraction.
The project’s blueprints reveal some intriguing details. Three new buildings are planned for the site, fueling speculation about their purposes. For instance, two larger buildings located behind the Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon attraction may serve as the station and maintenance facilities for the upcoming replacement. A smaller third structure could function as an electrical hub or possibly house a tunnel, though all the building’s exact functions remain uncertain.
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit has been a unique offering in the park’s lineup, with onboard music selections giving riders a personal soundtrack to their adventure. Although, its rumored demise began when song options began to dwindle on the attraction over the past year. Its towering vertical lift and non-inverting loop gave it a very recognizable presence in the world of roller coasters and Universal’s skyline.
While details of the coaster’s replacement remain a mystery, Rip Ride Rockit seems to be next to join the list of retired Universal attractions that pave the way for new experiences.
