Our Commentary
Walt Disney World made great strides in making Jollywood Nights feel like a more cohesive event last year. The atmosphere improved over year one, thanks to thoughtful moves like relocating entertainment and characters, and little enhancements. It flowed better throughout the park, with far fewer dead zones.
But there were still dead zones. The biggest of these was Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which was eerily quiet and dark during Jollywood Nights. It felt like a desolate planet, and not really in a good way. We’ve openly asked for a Life Day overlay for each of the last two years, and it seems like that’s finally happening:

Obviously, the ambition level remains to be seen. If this is just Chewbacca in his Life Day costume, it’s not going to be a game-changer for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. But at minimum, it will draw more guests back to this corner of the park, spreading out crowds and making Batuu feel a bit less like dead space.
More atmospheric enhancements are needed, though. Partysaurus Rex will be another good one, but it would’ve been nice to see a few more characters in Toy Story Land. That land never felt as dead as Galaxy’s Edge, but it also hasn’t felt alive in the same way. It’s basically just guests venturing back for the rides–and could be something more with characters and a dance party or some sort of small-scale entertainment.
Like the park itself that hosts it, Disney Jollywood Nights still felt a bit like a grab bag or hodgepodge of intellectual properties. For an event that purports to have a narrower theme than Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, it’s less focused. There are a lot of disparate things, with little-to-no connective tissue. It almost feels like Disney got cold feet about doing an adult-oriented ‘Old Hollywood’ Christmas Party, and threw in ingredients that would appeal to younger audiences.
Nevertheless, last year’s Jollywood Nights was a massive improvement over the inaugural season of the new Christmas party. If you’re planning ahead for 2025, it’s worth reading Disney Jollywood Nights Christmas Party Year-Two Review: Wow, What a Difference a Year Makes! We’ve attended both years, and it was truly a night-and-day difference.
The first night ever were absolutely atrocious. It made Madame Web sound good by comparison. If you’re curious for whatever reason, our experience at the inaugural night of the event is covered in Disney Jollywood Nights Christmas Party Review: Good, Bad & Ugly. That’s now obsolete for planning purposes since so many changes were made.
Walt Disney World management and entertainment teams deserve kudos for taking the negative year one reviews panning the party to heart, and making major changes for its second season. From a planning perspective, we also have a 1-Night Disney Jollywood Nights Itinerary, if you already know all about the event, don’t need an overview, and just want tips & tricks.
Our hope is that Walt Disney World is not done with the 2025 Jollywood Nights announcements, but the clock is ticking. Last year was a massive improvement, sure, but it’s too early to hang up the ‘mission accomplished’ banner. Although we really enjoy Jollywood Nights for what it is and think it’s a great counterprogramming Christmas party (and one that’ll really appeal to select audiences), it’s still nowhere on par with Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Further enhancements are still needed to ensure this becomes a fan-favorite holiday event. We shall see whether those happen in 2025!
