New York World’s Fair 1964: the not so secret truth. Walt Disney’s involvement in the 1964 Worlds Fair in New York City gave us new concepts for Disney rides and a lot of animatronic technology and the basis for Walt Disney World. It’s always celebrated a huge success but the World’s Fair was actually a big failure for everyone but Disney. Four Disney attractions were developed for the fair: General Electric’s Progressland featuring Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, Ford with the Magic Skyway, Pepsi-Cola giving us the iconic It’s a Small World, and the Illinois State Pavilion with Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. Without the New York World’s Fair, we wouldn’t so many classic Disney rides. At Disneyland and Walt Disney World, you can still find remanets of the fair but there’s probably a lot about the fair that you don’t know about, so lets explore the 1964 New York World’s Fair.
