October 4 – It was back on July 31, 2022 that the legendary Wildcat at Hersheypark officially closed. This led many fans to speculate what would be done with this colossal roller coaster. A rumor was floated in mid August that Wildcat was to get the RMC treatment.

This rumor still hasn’t been officially confirmed but fans are very hopeful that will come true. In our poll where we asked RMC treatment or new attraction for Wildcat?, 79% of voters said “RMC treatment” which certainly shows that Wildcat fans are not ready to give up on this coaster just yet.

The Coaster Spot did a construction update from Hersheypark in September which is embedded below. It shows footage of the current progress that has been made on Wildcat including:

Parts of the track have been cut.
Roof of station has been removed and is being redone.
The aerial view shows the entrance ramp has been demolished and a temporary staircase to give access to the station has been added.
It looks like some of the footers off the hill which led into the helix drop below the brake run have been removed.
Some of the track which has been taken off has been stacked next to the coaster.
Exit platform has been torn up and is gone.

It seems clear that preparation work is being done and we await confirmation from Hersheypark of their plans for Wildcat. For majority of fans they are hoping that it will be confirmed that Wildcat is getting the RMC treatment. We will keep you posted on further updates on our news and Facebook page.
Image: HersheyparkAugust 12 – Wildcat at Hersheypark officially closed on Sunday July 31 which has led many fans to speculate what will be done with this legendary roller coaster. Understandably thoughts moved to a possible RMC overhaul? Some have also thought that the coaster will be removed in order to make way for something completely new, perhaps from GCI?

Well, there has now been a rumor from Screamscape saying that one of their sources has said that GCI did bid on the project but that they were outbid by RMC. There has not been anything officially announced by Hersheypark regarding the fate of Wildcat. We will keep you posted on further details on our news and Facebook page. In the mean time, have fun voting in our poll below, RMC treatment or new attraction?

July 9 – It is always sad to hear the news that a rollercoaster is closing and we have heard that Wildcat at Hersheypark will close permanently on July 31. Hersheypark announced this upcoming closure on their twitter page, with a Last to ride alert! It also tells us to stay tuned for details later this year which we are assuming means news of a new attraction to replace the iconic Wildcat.

We listed Wildcat in our our recent featured article, 5 Wooden Roller Coasters That Are In Desperate Need Of The “RMC” Treatment. The twisted nature of the track makes Wildcat a great candidate for some Rocky Mountain Construction TLC as it would improve the comfortability and thrills the ride offers immensely and adding a hybrid coaster to Hersheypark would improve an already impressive roster, and still leave them with two other good wooden coasters.

Last to ride alert!
Wildcat will close Sunday, July 31 so be sure to visit this month for one final ride. Any suggestions on what we could do with 3,100 feet of wooden track?Stay tuned for details later this year. pic.twitter.com/ut8aRmfhat

Wildcat is one of several wooden coasters at Hersheypark, and was installed in 1996 at a cost of $5 million. The coaster was the first one to be manufactured by Great Coasters International, Inc. and hits a maximum speed of 48mph. Originally criticized for offering a rough experience, it was then outfitted with Millenium Flyer trains that offered a less painful ride around its 3,183-foot circuit although still never considered to be a smooth ride.

This news has inevitably caused upset for some Hersheypark fans, however a number of riders have commented online that recently Wildcat has been a very rough ride which leads us to believe that numbers have dwindled meaning it is time for this beast of a ride to retire.

Hersheypark is located in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The theme park was originally opened by Milton S. Hershey as a leisure park for employees of his chocolate factory. Hersheypark isn’t just your average theme park. There are not only incredible roller coasters, rides, and dining options, but tons of other attractions available in and out of the park. Included with your Let admission ticket to Hersheypark, you will also be able to visit ZooAmerica, The Boardwalk, and Hershey’s Chocolate World.
