You can read those details here. This time, we traveled on Mears Connect using the Standard transportation option in the busy morning hours.
In the past, we have made our Mears reservations in advance. This meant we had our boarding pass / QR code as we walked up to the kiosk on Level 1 of Terminal B, which made check-in easy. This time, we decided to purchase our fare when we arrived. Mears advertises this as an option but we’ve never used it ourselves until now.
There are 3 stations next to the main check-in desk with tablets that can be used to purchase your transportation same day. There were two team members available to help, but the process was as easy in person as it is online days in advance. Once we completed payment, we got an email and a text message with our boarding pass QR code and a team member directed us to the correct line.
The screenshots above arrived in our email seconds after booking our transfer to Pop Century. We also received our boarding passes via email and text.
We booked the Standard transfer and we booked it same day in order to get an actual wait time using the “slowest” method available. We’re happy to report that booking same day did not have any impact on our place in line. We were thrown in the general queue with other guests who had advance Standard reservations.
Timeline
9:42am – arrive at kiosk to purchase fare
9:48am – in line for the bus
10:03am – luggage loaded and in our seats
10:11am – very full bus moving to first of five stops
10:40am – arrive Art of Animation to drop passengers
10:43am – depart Art of Animation
10:48am – arrive Pop Century
10:53am – bus departs Pop Century
If you’re using the Standard transportation option, you won’t know how many stops your bus will make or what order your resort will be in that schedule until you’re on your way. We were told our bus had 5 stops and did not know that we were the 2nd stop until we were leaving Art of Animation. We could have asked our very friendly driver, but we decided to pretend we were laid back for once. Won’t be doing that again.
We arrived at Pop Century 66 minutes after we arrived at the Mears Connect kiosk and we paid $17.60 per person, plus tip. It was a pleasant journey and probably a sound plan if you’re arriving during a very busy period, like spring break, and you only have one or two people in your party. We noted lots of families onboard with car seats and strollers and it appeared that being able to move around or swap children to entertain mid-ride came in handy. Not something easily or safely done in a Lyft or Uber.
What do you think? Do you ever use Mears Connect?
